Self Portraits - Same But Different

We worked hard on our self portraits - we all used the 'same' art mediums, we all got taught the 'same' techniques', we all learnt the 'same' things about proportions of the face; we thought they might all turn out the 'same', but they all look completely 'different'!  Wow!  We are all the "Same But Different"...

Rugby World Cup Writing

This week we have been working on writing a recount about our experience of the opening night of the Rugby World Cup. Here are some pieces of writing from the Writer's Bootcamp group.

When it was the All Blacks vs Tonga they had to do the haka and the anthems. The All Blacks won and I was excited and happy when they won the match. Tonga was sad because they lost. We caned up Tonga on Friday. Italy lost against Australia and I was sad when they lost. I hope the All Blacks win the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
By Noah.

On the weekend I went to the Rugby World Cup 2011. It was Australia vs Italy. When the game started the Australians kicked the ball and it poured down with rain. My Dad was going to get me a ball but the line was big so my Dad said "At half time I will get a ball for you". I put my rainjacket on. It was half time and I got a ball. It is a Rugby World Cup ball but it is small and squishy. It was $10.

When it was half time it was 6-6. When it was Italy that kicked the ball the ball went into the crowd. Me and my Dad had face paint on. It was the Italy flag. After the game my Dad and I went to the bakery. My Dad got a coffee and I got a steak and cheese pie. We went home and I was happy.
By Kaleb.

I watched TV at home on Friday and it was the greatest Rugby World Cup. I liked it when the little boy was beating the rugby warriors. It was awesome. After the opening ceremony the boy was pulled up into the dark sky where he touched the big floating ball.
By Nathan.

I went to the Rugby World Cup 2011. The first thing we saw was the amazing opening ceremony. It had warriors but that wasn't my favourite part. It was when all of them turned into a fabulous hammerhead shark. The All Blacks won against Japan and I saw John Key. I was sad because he was on the other side of the huge Rugby World Cup. I liked the part when the boy called Ethan touched the enormous floating ball. I was lucky to see the enormous booming fireworks. There were even some from the Sky Tower. It was awesome. My Dad said it was awesome too.
By Ethan.

On Friday Mum, Kaleb, my friends and I went to the amazing opening ceremony. The best part was the fierce haka and there were amazing scary sharks. There was a boy and he was on the boat and he ran and scored a try. He went up on their arms and was lifted up and he was flying and the ball was flying too.
By Paige.

I went to Frace vs Japan. I knew France would win. My Mum and Dad were cheering for Japan. Me and my brother were cheering for France. Then we went to Australia vs Italy. I hoped Australia would win and they won. The score was 32 to Australia and 6 to Italy. I am very happy that Australia won. I am going to the All Blacks vs France. It is going to be a hard game.
By Riley.

In the weekend I went to watch the Italy vs Australia game. The score was 6-32 and Australia won but I wanted Italy to win. My Dad said that I could keep one of the amazing tickets. That was the first Rugby World Cup game i've ever been to. I liked Italy's National Anthem. It was cool because it is different. I got to have fizzy lemonade. I hope I can go to another awesome game.
By Heath.

I saw the fireworks. There were fireworks coming out of the Sky Tower. Then I went home and watched the Rugby World Cup on TV and the All Blacks won.
By Frank.

Rugby World Cup Fever

In our multi-cultural class we had divided loyalties when it came to the All Blacks versus Tonga on Friday... What an amazing night it was! We love celebrating our difference...Go the Mighty All Blacks! Go Tonga!

Going for an adventure.

Nice hot sun
Going to the icecream shop!

Raining flowers all day long

Spring is fun because heaps of animals are born
Pretty blossoms grow on the tree

Spring is nice and warm
Pools are warm and nearby
Run in the sun when it's nice and warm
I walk past parks and I see plants
Nice and warm, I go riding a horse in the sun
Growing and having fun in Spring.

Northern Arena Swimming

Have a look at our fabulous photos and read our reflection writing...

We went to swimming. The hardest part was doing one, two, three, roll and breathe but the easy part was frog jumping. My favourite part was beating the girls. We had to swim with a board sometimes and sometimes we don't. When we go swimming and I jump in it is cold. - Ice

Our swimming was terrific and my favourite lesson was freestyle and the hardest lesson was backstroke. On the bus I made a friend called Heath and he likes Lego and I like it too. - Harrison

At swimming the best part was the kicking because you can swim for real. The most challenging part was on my back even in the deepest pool. After two weeks of swimming I felt really happy. On the bus it was cool because I can talk to my friends and play games. - Heath

On the last day of swimming we went to the big pool. It was so deep I couldn't touch the ground and we had to swim to the big sponge. The challenging thing I did was jump in with the life jacket and take it off and put it back on again. It was hard and then we did chuck stuff in but only if the person that's in the water has to put their hand up. Wecould chuck something to them and swim back to the surface and then change over. When we finish we go and get changed and go on the bus and go back to school. - Janke

Bike Safety with Constable Dave

Zoom!  Today Constable Dave came and taught Room 9 bike safety on the Courts.  I learnt how to zigzag through cones without putting my feet down.  It was great fun.  We had slow and fast races.  Constable Dave said we always have to ride with our helmets on.
By Jasmin.

Constable Dave came to school.  We had to wear helmets that fit.  We went around cones.  There was heaps of obstacles.  It was awesome.  We also had races to see who was the best rider in our class.  Then we put our bikes and scooters away.
By Adam.

Today it was a great day.  What fun we had with jolly, tall Constable Dave.  It was bright and sunny and a good day to do bike safety.  We did lots of cool obstacles and slow and fast races.  What a day!  It was fun and exciting.  My bike is a light blue, massive, shiny, gear, sparkly bike.  It shines and glimmers in the hot morning sun.

Writing Super Sentences with Random Words

We are using a magic formula to get words for our writing.  Here are some of the 'Super Sentences' we wrote this morning using one of our 4 random words - McDonalds, carpark, parents, screamed.  We are learning to use adjectives and verbs to make our sentences really super!

I screamed because someone gave me a huge fright and it was very scary! - Sarah
I screamed loudly at my naughty dog Larry because he wouldn't be nice. - Riley
I screamed because my brother was pinching me really hard.  Ouch! - Elleanor
My Mum screamed because an enormous bear was in her house. - Nathan
There was bedlam in the crowded, noisy carpark early in the morning. - Kate
I screamed " Mum! Dad! Shark!" and they raced out of the water. - Paige
I screamed because my Mum said I could get a pet. - Caitie
I screamed because there was a huge fire. - Adam
I screamed so loudly that my Mum put me in my room and I did not eat my dinner. - Alyssa
I screamed because my brother jumped out and screamed at me like a lion. - Ice
My parents are so naughty because they smashed the window. - Janke
McDonalds is cool because they gave me some stickers. - Logan
I screamed loudly because I got stung by a big, fat bee. - Levi
At night I am all alone and I and see some scary shadows and one comes towards me and I screamed. Aaaaahhhhh! - Jasmin
I screamed because there was a big, fat pig in my room. - Boston

Aren't we becoming amazing writers!

Christchurch Earthquake Disaster

In class this morning we have been having a huge discussion about the scary earthquake in Christchurch.  We feel sad that the houses have been broken and that some of them are being robbed.  We talked about how sad and upset we feel for people who have been hurt and for all the people who have lost a member of their family or a friend.  We have seen on the news how sad and upset people are who are waiting to hear about their friends or family that are still missing.  We heard about the hospital needing blood for people who have been injured and Mrs L talked about people who can donate blood.  We also saw on the news how the biggest building fell down and people were trapped in it.  One of the oldest buildings fell down too.
The school is having a mufti day on the 4th of March and we will all bring a gold coin to go to the Red Cross.  The Red Cross is helping people with food and clothes and somewhere to stay now that they can't go home.

Goal Setting

We have been focussing on setting goals and sharing them with our parents at the school picnic.  We have been learning about SMART goals; Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timeline.  Mrs L helped us to pull each of those words apart so we know what they mean because they are quite big words.  We made writing goals and basic facts goals - but the most important goal was about Life Long Learning.

Because sometimes we only look at stuff about school Mrs L asked us to write about a goal we would like for ourselves - it didn't need to be a school thing.  Here are some of the goals we came up with:

My goal is to learn how to do a handstand for 8 seconds! - Sarah
I want to learn how to ride a 2 wheeler bike. - Mya
My goal is to do a forward-flip on the tramp. - Nathan
I want to be able to do a back flip and land. - Ice
My goal is to learn to a handstand. - Paige
My goal is to skateboard. - Adam
My goal is to learn to whistle. - Jasmin
My goal is to practice catching a cricket ball. - Heath
My goal is to be able to do more than 13 backhand springs in a row. - Elleanor
I want to get better at playing the piano. - Kate
My goal is to learn how to swim at the pools. - Caitie
My goal is to do a backflip on the trampoline. - Noah
I want to learn how to ride a mountain bike. - Logan
My goal is to be able to do a backflip into the pool. - Jorja
I would like to learn to dive properly into the pool. - Alyssa
I want to get better at playing the piano. - Natalia
I want to be able to do a bunny hop on my bike. - Bos
I want to be able to do a backflip on the trampoline. - Levi
My goal is to be able to do a handstand. - Janke
I want to be able to do a flip on the trampoline. - Ethan

It will be interesting to see how you all go at working towards and achieving your goals!
